| What we focus on gets bigger is true for getting more of what we want AND for getting more of what we don't want. Here is an example. We have a major upcoming election. Picture in your mind right now the candidate you don't want to win. Now imagine how you go about finding evidence to prove why he is not the right candidate. He is very easy to do! Each candidate is running commercials at this moment to help. What we don't like, we then seek evidence that helps us prove our point. Here is the rub. While we find evidence to prove our negative point, we seek the negative, thereby attracting more negative evidence. What happens? At once we are both gratified (our ego) and unsatisfied by focusing on the negative. When we prove our point, Ego is happy. But in reality proving a negative point attracts more negative situations into our lives. The important thing is to pay attention to how things, thoughts and actions make you feel. Keep thinking for a moment about the qualities of a candidate. Do you feel tenseness building anywhere in your body? Do you start to worry? What happens to your facial muscles? Your chest? Around your eyes? Now think about the candidate you love or somebody else that you love. Think about the good, positive qualities. Now pay attention to your body. How has your tension level changed? What about your facial muscles? How do you feel when you smile? You feel better don't you? If we spend our days focused on negative events, news, media, people, situations, we attract more of the negative. We tax our bodies, our minds and our souls. Try to spend a few moments today focused on the positive and most importantly, start paying attention to how you feel. Each time you notice stress, observe your thoughts and choose a more positive better feeling thought and moment by moment you will feel better. |
