My musings on the 25 Thing craze on FB.

Have you noticed that 25 things about me floating around on FaceBook? It seems if I get enough requests for something, like the 25 things, I usually jump in and play. But it got me thinking. I actually enjoy reading most people's lists. They certainly run the gamut of too much info, to not enough substance. Some lists come close to breaking my heart...and it makes me feel lucky to live a life I love with so many great friends to share it with.

The popularity of the list makes me think that people just want to be truly known and loved for who they are. I don't think who we are is a list of what we have done or where we have been or where we lived, but it is still nice to be asked to share something about ourselves. I love when people ask questions about me and my life.

I have noticed for me, that down south people don't ask as many questions which I think is sad. It makes it harder to create deep friendships. I have lived in one place now for about 3 1/2 years and friends haven't ask the most rudimentary questions about my family, where I have lived...nada. If I haven't spilled the beans, it remains unknown. I tend to feel that if you don't ask, you are not interested. I have heard people say around here, I can wait until you tell me. Why not just ask? Oh well.

What's it like where you live? Do people ask you questions or have you lived somewhere so long everything about you is thought to be known? Which do you prefer? I like a blend. I want my friends to ask questions about me. I certainly ask questions about them and most people say they find it refreshing to be asked about themselves.

I liked the 25 things once I took the time to do it. I have had a great and adventurous life so it was very hard to only write 25. I enjoy people's reactions about posting their own lists. Some seem to almost be embarrassed about participating. But don't you think a big part of the social networking craze is so we can be known and reconnect?

Were you terrified the first time you put your picture up on FB? Are you still a bit intimidated about FB et al? The kids seem to splash their lives online without a thought...except now that more parents are on FB, I have noticed far fewer postings from kids 18 and younger. Have they gone back to MySpace or has another teen and tween site been created with no parents allowed?

All I know is social networking is new to me, but I love FB. I have moved well over 20 times in my life, so FB helps me to connect the pieces of the puzzle called my life. Yet at the same time sooooo many memories are flooding back into my mind, I could get overwhelmed, but instead I am putting the Law of Attraction to work...meaning I will write another post about all I am learning soon. Meanwhile, keep the lists coming! Keep the requests coming. As we get to know others and get to be known, the world will find more peace.
